I am currently very inspired by the minimalist lifestyle. I stumbled upon two blogs which I really like, the first being theminimalists.com and the second becomingminimalist.com.
I’ve also been reading lots of other blogs, and one thing I’ve discovered about this whole decluttering thing is that it’s never going to work if you don’t examine the core reason why you’re doing it. Ever realized that you come to a point of time where you tidy up your room and two weeks later it’s back to being the giant mess that it was?
It’s quite hard for me to embrace the minimalist lifestyle. All my life, I’ve travelled over the luggage limit. I never pack light. I always buy twos and threes and fours of things just in case I run out of stuff. I never throw anything out, even stuff I’ve had ten or fifteen years ago.
But reading those sites really did help me realize one thing – all the stuff in the world isn’t going to make you happy. And honestly, isn’t it quite a sad existence if you only need material possessions to make you happy?
It also really is a case of never being enough. I’ve gotten a number of pay increases over the years, but as your pay increases, so does your lifestyle. It’s always okay to treat yourself, or to buy yourself a little something special. And then this frequency seems to increase!
So, no. I don’t want to go down that path. And at the rate I’m going, I’m very much going down that path.
