Meaning

I’ve been on a quest of living a more meaningful life, so I have decided to volunteer an hour of my time every week to a children’s home. I know an hour isn’t very much, but it’s a start and I want to train myself to have the discipline to commit to something and do it.

Today, I went to a children’s home in Taman Megah. It’s a centre for disabled kids – some have cerebral palsy, some have autism, some Down Syndrome, etc.
I spent about an hour or so there, and I have to say, it was fun and it didn’t feel like a chore at all. All I did was play with kids, we were just sitting down and they were telling me about their favourite subjects in school.

It was fun. What I would really like to do is instead of spending my Friday nights going out and partying or having drinks, is maybe to do something more productive and meaningful and spend it with the kids instead.

Of course, I hope this isn’t just all talk and no follow up – which can happen, so right now I want to keep myself to the time commitment of an hour a week.

I’ll update you on my next visit there!
